It is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome you all to the Philippine Nurses
Association of Ohio's 9th Induction and 16th Anniversary Ball!
I am deeply humbled and truly honored to serve as the 9th President of PNAO. I
am extremely fortunate to lead this outstanding dynamic organization after 16 years of
existence in which I have been a huge part of from the very beginning when it was
founded in 1992.
In the past, although I never spoke of it, I remember dreaming and telling myself,
"Someday I will become President of PNAO!" I'm pretty sure God already had that
etched in His master blueprints because several years ago ~all of a sudden~ in the
middle of one of the PNAA Regional Conventions~ Ate Cita Marasigan nominated me
in front of the North Central Region Delegates! It was a nomination that I could not
refuse and proudly accepted!!!
On behalf of PNAO, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone present
here tonight: To our distinguished guests, to the many Filipino-American
Organizations here in Ohio, to our Inducting Officer and Inspirational Speaker PNAA
President: Leo-Felix Jurado and to our PNAA Vice President-North Central Region:
Sofia Bole; to our colleagues, friends and families and to those who had to travel many
miles ~ a very special warm welcome to you all! Thank you so much for taking the
time to come here tonight and celebrate this joyous occasion with us! Your presence
here means more to me than you can ever know. Also, I want to acknowledge and
thank those who are unable to attend tonight but always continue to actively partner
and support PNAO.
Tonight we celebrate PNAO's past, its present and the tremendous promise of the
future. I congratulate and thank the outgoing 2006-2008 Officers and Board members
under the leadership of Bessie Schiroky for a successful job very well done!
I want to thank the Council of Wisdom / PNAO Past Presidents before me for their
visionary leadership, endless support and hard work: Alicia Tupaz (Founder),
Cecilia Estrella, Estelita Godoy, Denesa Zakel, Erlinda Schuetz, Oscar Dejelo,
Teresita Marasigan and Bessie Schiroky. By leading the way, they have paved the
road for creating a bright future for all of us! The theme for my administration,
"Creating the Future By Leading the Way" ties in with Leo's PNAA PRISM mantra~
"Honoring our Traditions, Advancing our Future" for it is within our roots that keep us
standing, well-grounded and nourished. Deep in my heart, I value and honor what our
ancestors and past leaders did for us ~ the struggles and sacrifices they made for us
so that we would be able to have a bright and shiny future. Sure, they may have made
a few mistakes along the way, but I believe that life is all about taking chances and
trusting our intuitions and grabbing hold of golden opportunities as they come. Let us
all strive to do our best each day to pave the way for the future generations to come. As
Harold McAlindon once said, "Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead
where there is no path and leave a trail."
To the Officers, Executive Board, our membership and beyond: a heartfelt thank you
for your continued support and generosity. I look forward to our continuing journey. It
will take each and every one of us to make PNAO shine and I accept the challenge of
leadership in partnering with PNAA in keeping the PRISM alive and I am very confident
that PNAO will continue to shine in our surrounding communities, throughout the
United States and in the Philippines. Networking with the other organizations in Ohio
along with PNAA is vital to our survival for we need each other to meet the challenges
of today's ever changing society. I do believe that we will continue to increase
Visibility ~ Viability ~ Vitality by working closely as a team! Together we can make a
difference!
I pray that we have a successful term and God continues to Bless us all! Maraming
salamat po sa inyong lahat! Thank you so much! Enjoy! Celebrate and dance the
night away!
Sincerely,
Lilian L. Palanca
PNAO President 2008-2010
