CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP

  • ACTIVE MEMBER:
Any professional registered, practical or vocational nurse of Philippine ethnic origin, who has been
granted a license to practice in
Ohio and who has paid the required membership dues.

  • ASSOCIATE MEMBER:
Any professional registered, practical, or vocational nurse of non-Philippine ethnic origin, who has been
granted a license to practice in the country of origin and/or Ohio and who has paid the required
membership dues.

  • STUDENT ASSOCIATE MEMBER:
Any senior nursing student who will be graduating during the year of membership and who has paid the
required membership dues.

  • MEMBER AT-LARGE:
Any professional registered, practical, or vocational nurse of Philippine ethnic origin, who has been        
granted a license to practice in any state or country and who has paid the required membership dues.

  • HONORARY MEMBER:
A person to whom honorary membership is conferred by virtue of majority vote of the Executive Board for
distinguished service rendered or valuable assistance to the nursing profession and towards achieving
the objectives of this association.



                                            BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP



  • Privilege of Representation:  As a member of PNAO, you automatically become a member of the
    Philippine Nurses Association of America (PNAA) which is a constituent of the National Coalition of
    Ethnic Minority Nurse Associations (NCEMNA). Along with over 10,000 Filipino-American nurses in the
    United States and over 350,000 minority nurses, you have a voice in various professional organizations,
    government agencies, community groups and other coalitions. PNAO is also a member of the Ohio
    League for Nursing.

  • Networking:  Joining the PNAO provides you with opportunities to meet with other Filipino nurses and
    connect with experts in your own field of specialty as well as professionals across other disciplines at the
    local, state, national and international level. This may empower you to share information and build a
    support group among the Filipino nursing workforce. Members of PNAO / PNAA are alumni of various
    schools and colleges of nursing in the Philippines and in the United States and give you the opportunity
    to stay in touch with other nursing alumni.

  • Educational Opportunities:  Chapter Educational offerings are scheduled yearly and are free to
    PNAO paid members.  Discounted fees to educational programs at the chapter, regional, national and
    international levels (Annual PNAA Regional Conference, PNAA National Conference and PNAA
    International Conference). Qualify for scholarship offered by PNAAF and NCEMNA Mentor Program
    opportunities and Advanced Practice nurse forums.

  • Scholarship Program:  PNAO scholarship awards are given to deserving nursing students of
    Philippine ethnic origin or paid member.

  • Community Outreach / Projects:  You will partake in community programs to improve the health and
    well-being of residents in your community, the US and Philippines. Participation and volunteer work in
    health fairs and activities and projects provide an avenue to meet Career Ladder requirements of
    different hospitals and fulfill one's personal / professional goal. PNAO / PNAA Involvement: Fundraising
    for Gawad Kalinga- organization that builds homes for the homeless in the Philippines; Kababayan
    Emergency Preparedness - raising funds for disaster relief in Philippines; Philippine Medical / Surgical
    Missions - provide care to underprivileged alongside various disciplines; MedWish Foundation - medical
    mission supply sorting; Philippine Festival - BP screening; Folkdance performances in community
    cultural events; Asian Festival in Columbus - Health Fair; Caroling in nursing homes and Filipino
    households during Christmas; Serving Holiday meals & food, clothing and monetary donations to needy;
    Mentorship program - mentoring new nurses from Philippines.

  • Leadership Development:  Various opportunities to develop your leadership skills.

  • Serving Your Colleague:  You will have the privilege of serving as a delegate, officer, or committee
    member of the national level, vote on important issues, decisions and actions that affect Filipino-
    American nurses and the Asian community at large.
