President Bessie Schiroky's Report on PNAO Activities from October, 2006 to September, 2008

• October, 2006 – participated in the Asian-
Catholic Festival and ICC (International Community
Council) forum held in Cleveland
• November – volunteer members served
Thanksgiving meals to the needy in the inner city of
Cleveland
• December – caroled in nursing homes; caroled
in Filipino homes (fund-raiser); had 2 “adopt-a-
family”; had X-mas party for PNAO families in Parma
Hall
• January, 2007 – joined federation of all Filipino
organizations in the area in raising funds for
Albay/Bicol disaster - $500 from PNAO coffer and
$250 donation from members was given; $100 was
donated to PNAA’s relief effort
• February – president joined medical mission in
Bulacan; president and members joined medical-
surgical mission in Rizal province; performed a
folkdance during “Asian and Friends” celebration of
Chinese New Year in Cleveland
• March – president wrote an article about the
medical-surgical mission which was published in “The
Pulse”(APPO newsletter); started volunteer work in
Med-Wish Foundation in Cleveland
• April – attended North Central Regional
Conference in Detroit, MI - performed “Sway” dance
during Welcome Night (and earned the spot to
present the NCR in the National Convention) and was
requested by PNAM to perform again in the Gala Night
• May – members did song/dance performances
for the residents of Jenning’s Center for Older Adults
in Garfield Heights
• June – PNAO applied and became official
member of the OLN (Ohio League for Nursing)
• July – attended PNAA National Convention in
Anaheim, CA and represented the North Central
Region during the Fellowship Night’s talent show
(performed “Sway” dance again for the national
audience); PNAO President voted COP(Circle of
Presidents) by the other chapter presidents in North
Central Region earning her a spot in the PNAA EB
meetings; PNAO Prez participated, for the first time, in
the PNAA con-call meeting dealing with critiques of the
National Convention and corresponding
recommendations; had Hawaiian dance presentation
in the PASO Luau affair
• August – bowling fund-raiser in Freeway Lanes
in Brookpark; participation in the Filipino Festival in
Philippine Cultural Center and did free BP screening;
participated in the joint picnic of all Filipino
organizations in the area held in PCC
• September – held a successful 15th
Anniversary Ball in Holiday Inn-Rockside (with NCR
RLO, Sofy Bole, as guest speaker) showcasing the
talents of the nurses and raising funds for medical
mission and nursing scholarships; had another
publication of PNAO newsletter “Perspectives”; held
annual picnic for members’ families and friends in
Brecksville Metro Parks
• November – volunteer members served
Thanksgiving lunches and dinners to the inner city
poor of Cleveland
• December – X-mas caroling in a nursing home
and Filipino homes; held the annual PNAO family X-
mas party in Parma Hall
• January, 2008 – PNAO Prez participated in the
PNAA “Balik Turo” and gave a lecture to the members
of CCNAPI (Critical Care Nurses Assn. of PI); PNAO
was represented in the 6th PNAA International
Conference by Bessie and Cecil (Estrella) – the PNAO
President participated in the open forums and was
asked by PNAA Pres. to sing acapella during the
Welcome Night reception for PNAA delegates and
guests; donated $500 to buy meds for the medical
mission in PI - volunteer members participated in the
APPO mission in Iba, Zambales
• February – PNAO Prez participated in the PNAA
Executive Board con-call meeting for debriefing on the
International Conference held in Manila, submitted an
article about the PNAA Balikturo for publication in the
PNAA newsletter
• March – wrote an article about the medical-
surgical mission in Zambales to be published in the
“Pulse”, the Assn. of Pilipino Physicians of OH
newsletter
• April – attended the NCR Regional Convention
in Kansas City
• May – held a fund-raising Luau dance party;
participated in the Asian Health Fair in Columbus, OH
• June – participated in the Philippine Festival in
PCC and did free BP screening
• July – performed Ifugao Festival Dance during
Pista sa Nayon PASO dinner-dance; attended PNAA
National Convention in SPI, TX – authored and did
case presentations on KEPF (Kababayan Emergency
Preparedness Funding) during the COP meeting and
General Assembly meeting; led singing during NCR
Welcome Night presentation
• August – held annual PNAO summer picnic in
Sunny Lake Park in Aurora
• September – program participation during fund
raiser for King’s Garden Orphanage in Bataan;
helped in APPO’s medical mission poker fund raiser
held in Nautica Pavilion in Cleveland; PNAO
Anniversary/Induction Ball with PNAA President,
LeoJurado, as guest speaker; Sunday brunch
reception for Leo, Sofy Bole and PNAO members
*ongoing activities are mentoring of “new” Filipino
nurses and volunteering in MedWish Foundation
*number of paid members doubled during the 2 year
term
